From Fire Chief Gary Miller

Due to the increase in the number of vehicles in the department over the past year, ASVFD is building an expansion onto its current fire house.

This project was only possible because of many factors; the generous donations received from our June mail request and the August open house, the enthusiastic support of the Kendall County Commissioner’s Court which authorized funds to finance the slab and building, and the many volunteer hours put in by our members and local residents.

The addition will be a 40’x45′ 3 bay garage sited behind the current building. There will be a 15′ corridor connecting the two. It will hold a small storage area and future rest room.

Slab pour complete by 4 PM. Contractors are finishing the edges at the entrance to one of the new additions 3 parking bays.

The slab was poured during the week of 12 Oct 2009 by Neal and Neal Concrete of Kerrville.  On Friday the 23rd, some of our volunteers completed the parking and turn around apron in front of the new addition.

Soon David Johnson of Comfort will assemble the building on the new slab.  We expect his work will take a week or so depending on the weather. When Mr.Johnson is done, our volunteers will wire, plumb and finish the interior.  Then we will finally have all 4 vehicles of our  in a central location and under shelter.
